MIDORI.so Kichijoji From the city center surrounded by green-colored trains, to a town where orange-colored trains run— a lush park surrounding the source of the Kanda River, and in front of the station, alleyways that evolved from postwar black markets. A hub of subculture and a town that everyone dreams of living in—Kichijoji. Located inside PARCO, the gateway to this beloved neighborhood, MIDORI.so Kichijoji brings the same sense of diversity and excitement that defines MIDORI.so. Here, living and working blend closely in a local context— a workspace that feels like a natural extension of your everyday life.

MIDORI.so AOYAMA is a desk-less version of MIDORI.so, located between Aoyama-itchome and Nogizaka stations. It’s a new type of workspace that breaks down “working” into its elements and focuses on “meeting.” This time, we’d like to introduce examples of how the space has been used for events and workshops. MIDORI.so Nihonbashi MIDORI.so Nihonbashi is a workspace where living and working seamlessly blend into one. Check in, and log in. You wake up with the morning light and brew a cup of coffee. In the quiet shared kitchen, you send an email while picking up where you left off yesterday. At night, you jot down an idea that came to you in bed. Here, life and work flow together naturally, moving at your own rhythm. As anthropologist Tim Ingold once said, there are two kinds of movement: “transport” and “wayfaring.” This place resembles wayfaring—a world where detours and meandering thoughts are welcomed.Working doesn’t have to mean reaching a goal as efficiently as possible. Sometimes, in the space between things, you encounter something unexpected that shifts your perspective. It’s in that gentle uncertainty that new ideas can be born. MIDORI.so Nihonbashi is neither just a hotel nor just a workspace. What begins at check-in is a slightly different way of engaging with work—freer, a bit more ambiguous, yet grounded. A place where you can move forward at your own pace.

MODORI.so IKEJIRI MIDORI.so founder Teruo Kurosaki has led the transformation of Japan’s first school-redevelopment project, the “IID Setagaya Monozukuri School,” into a new multi-purpose facility called “HOME/WORK VILLAGE.” Centered around the theme of “facing social issues as homework for our generation, rather than passing them on to the next,” MIDORI.so Ikejiri is located within a space that utilizes former school facilities such as a library and schoolyard. Once a place of learning, it now serves as a hub for work that connects with the daily lives and professions of the local community. Announcement of the Opening Party for MIDORI.so Ikejiri

When sakura buds start dotting the trees around Tokyo, this precursor of spring isn’t just a reminder for us to dust fans and dig out airy cotton tops from the back of the closet. At MIDORI.so, it means that we will soon be greeted with Noël’s big bear hug, hear his bright “ohayo” in the morning, and chat over caramel lattes after community lunch. As a longstanding member of the community, he has witnessed it evolve, but maintain its role as a central node in the creative community. He shares how it has influenced not just his experience of Tokyo, but his social world and international lifestyle. How did you find out about MIDORI.so around a decade ago?

Concentration is when our awareness is directed toward a single point. If we assume that, we might be inclined to think of concentration as something we can create ourselves. But what if, in reality, it's not about us heading toward it, but rather about being invited from the other side—being allowed to enter that space? While we are drawn in, we aren't simply "spending time concentrating." Instead, it's as if we are fully immersed, consciousness and all, within that very moment. Seamless concentration is like a flowing river, and its depth can resemble waves that ebb and return. Gently, quietly, toward somewhere. Soft sounds beckon us to a time and place that lies beyond the invitation— Imagine it that way. This playlist is meant to be listened to when you really need to concentrate. I'm sure it will take you somewhere.

What is Jazz? We all know jazz — but what is it, really? Does it make you want to dance? Does it move your emotions? Does it make you feel romantic? Maybe none of us truly knows what jazz is. So we made our own jazz playlist. The jazz might already be inside you. [Spotify]
