noise in tranquility
MIDORI.so Gallery is pleased to present noise in tranquility, a solo exhibition by textile artist Tomoyo Tsurumi on April 10th, 2026.
Tsurumi’s practice explores the relationships between materials, people, and space, creating sensory and contemplative environments. In noise in tranquility, she reflects on the subtle presence of silence and the unseen layers that lie beyond the surface.
Rather than focusing only on audible sound, the exhibition considers noise as the overlapping rhythms of contemporary life and the intersections of cultural and material layers. Within these complexities, silence appears not as an absence but as a quieter presence that emerges from within them.
Working primarily with woven textiles, Tsurumi renders these unseen layers visible through fiber. Her works invite viewers to slow down and attend to subtle shifts in light and perception, opening an awareness toward expanded modes of sensing.
Tsurumi graduated from Tama Art University in 2018 and completed an MA in Textiles at the Royal College of Art in 2023. Through textile structures and material experimentation, her practice explores forms of communication beyond language.
