TOKYO PERIFERIA
MIDORI.so Gallery Ikejiri is pleased to present “TOKYO PERIFERIA,” opening on Friday, May 15, 2026.
In an age where images can be generated endlessly by AI, this exhibition returns to the analog roots of photography, reexamining the very act of “making an image.” Moving beyond the moment of capture, the process of developing and printing in the color darkroom brings images into being, returning photography to a handcrafted form.
This group exhibition brings together photographers who print at “Darkroom B5,”a color darkroom where photographers engage with the materiality of film and photographic paper while exploring the notion of periphery through their individual perspectives.
“Periferia” refers to the outer edge of a circle or form. Here, it is understood as the boundaries and subtle shifts that emerge at the peripheries of space and consciousness, an attempt to visualize the atmospheres and sensations that exist beyond the center. From “taking” photographs to “making” them.
"TOKYO PERIFERIA" looks toward the future while returning to the origins of the image
